I have been running a restaurant chain along with a delivery app. This gives me a perk of understanding both sides of the equation. As a restaurant, I see you as a salesman who bring me unimaginable sales through your platform (story of Zomato made us believe this). On the other hand, as an app owner, I see myself as a logistic partner to all restaurants which provide tech support.
Solution to your problem:
(Points that can help)
Restaurant Problem -
- Donot bring large number of restaurants to your app. That will bring your cost high.
- Try to bring sales volume to small number of restaurants and educate your restaurants owners that any business's profits are driven through VOLUME and not pricing. If they give a 100 rupee item to 10 people, they earn 1000. While if they offer 100 rupee item at 80 rupee to 100 people, they earn 8000.
- Understand your customer's industry: Restaurant is not a CASH business, it is a CASH FLOW business. While their customer footfall is uncertain, their expenses on a daily basis are FIXED & Inevitable.
- Make payout at ZERO. Give them payments instantly in the beginning.
- DONOT try to be ZOMATO or any food delivery company. Try to be their friend who want to help them bring their sales to the next level even during COVID lockdown (which might come btw)
Delivery Problem -
- DONOT give salary to delivery guys. Give them incentive. Give Rs.20/Packet + Minimum Support (As low as Rs. 3000). Educate your delivery person. Daily 10 Packets average (Rs. 200 Daily = Rs. 6000 monthly) + Rs. 3000 Support (He is earning Rs. 9000 - MASSIVE). Also, if you live in small town, try to find cycle delivery boys. (This will save PETROL COST at a huge margin & ZOMATO is doing the same).
- Give per packet payouts - weekly and minimum support payout - monthly. In the beginning, try to rotate the cash to be profitable and create a reserve for unfortunate situations.
