Chunk files are not for editing purpose, and for your thing, it will be a mess because you will have to change in almost all the chunk files and there may be more than 100 occurrences.
Yes, extended license source files are the only way to do code customisation in the standard way. And even there, you will have to make changes in 10 files, but that's much easier than touching the chunk files.
