Today I came across Grabs food - order scheduling system and it was elegant. It then reminded me, when will the order scheduling update be released ?

Saurabh Your message does not reassure me. You had confirmed that you were going to make the update in a short time so that the restaurant could place the order in ready to pick up to avoid that the deliveryman arrives too early.

By reading your message I have the impression that you forgot this step and announced it a few days ago ....

Can you tell me more? Because let's imagine I place an order at 7pm, the restaurant accepts it at 7:01pm, then it starts the order at 7:30pm, and it's ready at 7:50pm, this poses a problem if the deliveryman is notified to pick up the order at 7:01pm...

AgencyNilton this discussion is only about implementation of Order Scheduling, not for "Ready to Pickup" functionality.

The "Ready to Pickup" that you are suggesting is for the whole Foodomaa, and not particularly for Order scheduling.

"Ready for pickup" status will be done for later versions of Foodomaa which is not in the scope of discussion of this thread.

Work on something simple

Restaurant setup predefined schedule.(order allowed on that slot). Once the slots defined you don't have to worry about scheduling. Why need buffer before order?
Customer place order, order accepted by the restaurant. let them decide when they want to accept.
Since the order has timing, the delivery guy should know when to deliver

Refine it as it progress.

hi . check this out for order schedule.
img 1: we can set buffer time so that the schedule / slot starts only after the certain time.
img 2: we can set the slot type
img 3: we can set the time slots.

*this is only for idea purpose that ll be great for order scheduling.

I would like my customers to be able to schedule their pickup / collection time.

Options ideal for me should be simply:

Now
In 10mins
In 15mins
in 30 mins
Specifiy time selector

My bizmodel has no delivery drivers.

If the shop is closed when the customer would like to pickup then they should not be allowed to place the order and reminded of the restaurant closing time, then they can decide if it suits them or not to go through with the order.

Example

Time is 3pm and Shop closes at 5pm. Customer places order for 5:30pm. Notification = Sorry shop will be closed, please schedule pickup for before 4:45pm

Any idea when this module may be ready>?

I think we should keep it as simple as possible for the Foodomaa team. Don't make it complicated.

I think a simple time selector, which is in line with opening times of restaurant, would be very much sufficient at this stage. Compared to having no time selector at all, I think there's no reason to ask for all these additional, individual requirements.

It is impossible that such functionality will serve all users equally, as each restaurant will have different way of operation.

Adrian73 finally, thank you for understanding.

Everyone just keep throwing their business requirements. We are trying to build something on Foodomaa for everyone to use. I am not a freelancer here taking the client requests. - many Foodomaa users needs to understand that.

Order will be accepted by restaurant after they open. Owner comes in at 12.00-1.00pm and checks orders. Then click accept.

When restaurant opens at 1pm, cook start cooking at 1pm. First available time slot in time selector would be 1.30-2.00pm (if you stick to 30 minutes time slots).

Keep it simple.

It is not reasonable to expect that such functionality will serve all users equally, as each restaurant will have different way of operation. After release of a basic version by Foodomaa, find a developer who can custom you time-selecting needs.

I would be more than happy with any kind of simple time selector in Foodomaa at this stage.

@Adrian73 one more challenge, if the store opens at 9am closes at 9pm, the customer comes to your app at 8am and want to schedule the order for 1pm.

In the current Foodomaa scenario, if a customer clicks on the closed store at 8am, they get "Restaurant Not Operational" message and they cannot place an order.

So if a store allows Order scheduling, and the open/close time are set, then the customer coming at 8am can schedule a order for the available slots, but cannot place an direct order, correct?

(I mean this is not a idea challenge, but many things in the application needs to be compatible with this, that's a challenge here)

Saurabh I guess for this most of the companies allow the user to schedule the order only during their business operation timing. Pre order and order scheduling are two different things I guess.

Saurabh If a restaurant allows order-scheduling, a customer can make an order every day that the restaurant is open. But the first available timeslot that is being shown starts from after opening time.

Example.
Restaurant opening times: Wednesday until Sunday from 2pm - 10pm. Monday + Tuesday closed.

Customer opens app on Monday and wants to order. > ""Restaurant Not Operational". Cannot order, because closed on every Monday.
Customer opens app on Friday at 11am. He can make an order, but first available timeslot for delivery that is being shown is 2.30-3.00pm. (allow 30 minutes for cooking and delivery)
Last order can be taken on opening days, 30 minutes before closing. So, last time slot is 9.30pm

So, for basic time scheduling, we use only the next variables for calculation:

opening days
opening times
preparation time to determine first and last available time slot. (30 minutes in example above)

There is no need to change order flow, notifications, sections or any other things. Keep it simple and basic.

NikhilJain The simple flow would be

User can select prefer timing for the day only before store closing time.
Restaurant receive the order instantly with timing highlighted and may a different different section in dashboard with heading "Scheduled orders"(like self pickup section).
Delivery guy will get the order notification and can accept the order but the delivery timing will be highlighted in delivery guy app(Its the duty of delivery guy to deliver the order on that particular time.)

If I am missing any point please correct me.

NikhilJain The 3rd point, I think there is no need of the delivery guy to know the order is scheduled or not. They will only know about the order when the restaurant accepts it.

For restaurants, we will show the order as soon as it is scheduled but they can only accept it before they start working on the order (they will set this time threshold, let's say 30mins - so before 30 mins of scheduled order time, the restaurant will be able to accept the order)

And when the Restaurant accepts the order, the order notification is sent to the delivery guy. In this way the current Foodomaa logic is not changed.

Saurabh without order acceptance customer will have the chance to cancel their order ( I saw this customer behaviour if there is delay in acceptance they generally change their mind and cancel the order.)

If we want to set threshold can we do it on the delivery guy end? Like he can accept later on?

Yes customer cancels the order that are getting late for being accepted, but this is only for same time delivery orders. For scheduled orders, they should understand that the order will be accepted before the scheduled time.

(May be for scheduled orders we can show a custom html/message block on the Orders Tracking page too - this will help the customer understand the process)
